Osasuna Earns First Home Win of the Season at El Sadar

Forward Ante Budimir scored the winner in a game marked by midfielder Rubén García's 300th appearance for the club

Osasuna (2-1-0, 7 points) ended its seven-day, three-match stretch with two wins and one draw after defeating Getafe 1-0 at El Sadar on Monday night. Los Rojillos took all three points thanks to forward Ante Budimir, who scored on a penalty kick late in the first half.

The match had a special tone from the start as the stadium celebrated midfielder Rubén García’s 300^th appearance for the club. Before the game, club President Luis Sabalza presented García with a jersey and a photo to mark the milestone, and the crowd greeted him with a standing ovation.

Osasuna threatened early, with midfielder Aimar Oroz twice entering the penalty area but unable to find the net. As the match progressed, both defenses held firm to keep threats at bay. In the 42^nd minute, defender Djené held Budimir in the box, and after video review, the referee awarded Osasuna a penalty. The Croatian international converted for the game’s only goal.

In the second half, Getafe nearly equalized when forward Enes Ünal finished a low cross at the far post, but video review disallowed the goal for offside. Osasuna responded as forward Jonathan Dubasin received a pass from defender Iñigo Arguibide, but goalkeeper David Soria made the save. Getafe continued to press, forcing Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera into a critical stop on a close-range shot by midfielder Ramón Terrats. In the closing minutes, Getafe kept attacking, but Osasuna had the best late chances through Dubasin and midfielder Kike Barja, though neither could extend the lead.

Osasuna will prepare to face Deportivo Alavés on Sunday, Sept. 6, at Mendizorrotza. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CET (5:30 p.m. BST, 12:30 p.m. ET).
